Does taking a bath/shower constitute as wudu?

Question:

I have a question related to Wudu. If I take a bath or shower, am I then automatically in the form of wudu or do I have to do wudu again separately after ghusl? Jazakhallah khayrun in advance.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Thank you for your question.

When one completes all the requirements of ghusl (Islamic ritual bath), then one is automatically in the state of wudhu. The reason for this is that the four faraid (obligatory acts) of wudhu are completed during ghusl.

“O you who believe, when you rise for Salah (prayer) wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and make masah (wiping by hands) of your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles.” (Qur’an 5:6)

It should also be noted, some schools of jurisprudence such as the Shafie school require an intention while others such as the Hanafi school do not require an intention.

And Allah knows best.
