Marriage and lustfulness?

Question: Assalam’aleykum

If one were simultaneously in a state of extreme desire and were certain they would not be able to uphold their duties as a spouse, what would the legal ruling of marriage be?

Answer: In the Name of Allah, Merciful and Compassionate

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

The general principle is that harming another is worse than harming oneself.

Given this, if someone is in a state where they will (a) themselves fall into the haram if they don’t marry but (c) will surely be an active wrongdoer or oppressor if they marry, then it would be impermissible for them to marry.

When unsure, we would recommend three things:
(1) learn about the Islamic guidance related to marriage;
(2) consult the learned about the specifics of one’s situation;
(3) take the means to be ready to fulfill the responsibilities of marriage.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,
