In our lives, we try to seek bits and pieces of ‘light’ from different sources. Friends, loved ones, successes, degrees, outstanding jobs, big paychecks, exciting trips, movies….
But if you think about it, all those sources end. Don’t they?
When you actually achieve some- or all- of that, you’ll find that they are all limited.
None of them is permanent.
None of them can provide durable, sustainable light in the heart.
The only source of light that never ends is Allah!
Allah is THE Light.
The Ultimate Source of Light. The Source that never ends….
The Beginner, The Originator, The Sustainer of Light. He is The Light of hearts, minds, souls, eyes, ears, limbs… Allah is The Light!
“Allah is The Light of the Heavens and The Earth!” (Qur’an 24:35)
But it’s not just light that He gives…
Allah is the Source of all Beauty
Allah is the Source of all Love
Allah is the Source of all Mercy. Allah divided mercy into 100 parts. He kept 99 and sent one on earth. All the mercy in the world, all the mercy of all mothers, all people, all animals… everything in the entire universe from the beginning of time until the end of time share only one part of Allah’s mercy. Can you imagine? He kept 99 double that with Him for the Day of Judgement … Can you imagine how much mercy He is yet to show? That’s why we should never give up.
Allah is The Source of everything. He is The Beginning and The End. He is The First and The Last. He is the first one who took care of you even before your mother was able to when you were nothing but a drop of fluid. He will be The Last One you end up with, when everyone else will leave you in your grave meeting your judgement, and eventually meeting Him. Allah is the All-Knowing, All Powerful. No one and nothing can remotely even imagine the power of Allah. Allah is The King of all kings and His Throne extends over all seven heavens and the earth. His Throne alone extends over the entire universe, the entire heavens and the earth.
Allah is Greater than anything He has created.
The light of this universe doesn’t come near The Light of His Face.
To Allah belongs all Glory, all Majesty and all Power…to Allah belongs all things in existence, He is The Creator of existence, He is The Source of existence…
Allah created us for Himself; to worship Him, know Him, love Him, adore Him, and create an eternal bond with Him. We belong to Him, and to Him we shall return. The beauty of the human being is that he is neither an angel who does everything right, nor a devil who is so arrogant as to obey or accept the Truth.
We, the human beings, have a choice. This choice is the test of our sincerity and true love.
We can choose to indulge in distractions or we can choose to remember Him. We can follow our desires, or we can follow Him. We can choose to turn away and run away or we can turn to Him and run to Him and be in love with Him…despite all struggles, despite all challenges and despite all temptations… and that’s sincere love!
“Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – the Most Merciful will appoint for them love.” (Qur’an 19: 96)
You see?
If you believe, you must reflect this belief in action. If you have light, you must reflect this light through action.
“A man was with the Prophet (ﷺ) and a man passed by him and said: Messenger of Allah! I love this man. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then asked: Have you informed him? He replied: No. He said: Inform him.” [Sunan Abi Dawud]
Go. Act. Do. Reflect this love and light and faith in your heart. It must be seen in you and transmitted to people.
Life is all about being tested and being put in situations where we make a choice. Once we choose Him, He opens doors of mercy and beauty and wisdom and ease that is even more satisfactory than everything in the entire world. Nothing can fill the heart like He does. Nothing can give satisfaction like He does. He is The Creator of the heart. He knows what pleases it. He created the world with pleasures but He made the pleasure of knowing Him more fulfilling than anything in existence. He wants for people to turn to Him and seek Him and ask of Him and He will give and give beyond expectations because He is The Owner of everything. There is no other owner but Him.
To Him belongs the heavens and the earth and everything in between. Exalted be He above anything we prioritize over Him. Allah. Our Allah. Our Creator.
{رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا] {مريم : 65]
“Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them – so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?” (Qur’an 19:65)
“It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.” (Qur’an 57: 4)
Allah has shown us the way. Now, we need to put our trust in Him. He is closer to you than anything…even the screen you’re looking at now to read those words.
So speak to Him. Ask of Him…. Ask Him to give you light.
“O Allah! Place light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, light above me, light below me, make light for me.” “Make me light.” (Sahih Muslim)
